Masterclass Socratic Dialogue and Practical Philosophy November 23 - 24, Prague
Philosophical dialogues in private companies and organisations? That is a common practice in the Netherlands and Erik Boers has many years of experience in conducting workshops and consultations. He will introduce principles of his philosophical workshops and offer practical activities.
During the first day we will practice with different forms and elements of the Socratic Dialogue. And we will reflect on the theoretical background of this method. The second day is dedicated to a broader philosophical practice. I will introduce several practical philosophical exercises derived from the Liberal Arts: Dialectic, Rhetoric, Grammar and Ethics. These exercises will be illustrated with experiences from the way I apply them in boardrooms and groups of professionals.
Erik Boers (1960) studied philosophy at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. At the end of his studies he co-founded the Master's programme in Philosophy of Management and Organisation, where he was a guest lecturer for 22 years. He is a member of the Society for Socratic Philosophising and has been conducting Socratic dialogues in organizations as an independent consultant for more than thirty-five years. He is the author of a number of books and articles in this field, such as Free Space: Field guide to Conversations (Jos Kessels, Erik Boers and Pieter Mostert, 2009). In 2022 he defended his PhD thesis 'From Science to Conscience; the Socratic Dialogue Reconsidered' (Radboud University, Nijmegen).
